His previous 3 solo albums grouchyfriendly, Issues + Options and
The Great Longing have all been released to extensive critical acclaim.
Stephen Holden of the New York Times called Issues + Options "one of the
2 or 3 most satisfying albums by an American singer songwriter." His
latest release is titled In The Weird Small Hours.
In 1955 Frank Sinatra recorded his landmark album In The Wee Small Hours.
He assembled a collection of songs from some of the greatest songwriters
of his time and sung of love, loss, and longing.
Based on this concept, Phil Roy has gathered a collection of songs from writers who's narrative
moved him in the same way, but with modern sensibilities. The release
includes the songs of Ryan Adams, Elliott Smith, Radiohead, The Eels and
Conor Oberst and Joesph Arthur.
In The Weird Small Hours will be released through Elite
Artist Services/Sony Red September 29th 2009.
My last album, The Great Longing was released on a major label
(Decca/Universal) last year. I am very happy to again be independently
releasing my new work with Elite Artist Services. Elite's new approach
to helping artist release thier music is like none other. It's an exciting
opportunity to be involved with a new way of doing things.
